About Me (continued)

I thought it wasn't fair and talked to my teacher. She told me it was too good and that I had plagiarized it from someplace.  I had to bring in all my notes and a wastebasket full of draft copies and revisions. She changed my grade to A and put my story up on the bulletin board.

It was one of the last assignments and I didn't write any more stories until I went to college. There I took a creative writing class. The first assignment was to write about a true life experience. I wrote about a haunted house I explored with a friend. Yikes! I got another "F." The professor said I had a great "dramatic flair" but the assignment was to write a "True" story. It was true! I swear!.  Having a bit of an attitude, I dropped the class.

From there I went in the army, got married, got a job in the corporate world and began a family. Many, many years later my grownup children bugged me about writing. I taught them to chase dreams and they said I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't chase mine. They were right!  I started writing and now have a contract for a 5 book series. Whew! Lots of hard work, tons of encouragement, a bunch of learning, rewriting, rejections, and more!

I thought you write a book, send it to the publisher and then walk to the mailbox each month to grab your royalty check. I quickly learned, it doesn't work that way.

Well, enough about that. If you are interested in writing DON'T let what happened to me, happen to you. Write now! Write all the time. Find writers, parents, teachers and others who will give you support and encouragement!
